MetaMask is what connects you to the decentralized internet (Web3). Without it, you can't use Uniswap, Aave, OpenSea, or most DeFi protocols. It takes 5 minutes to set up.

What Can You Do With MetaMask?

Hold Ethereum (ETH) and any ERC-20 token
Swap tokens directly (no exchange needed)
Connect to DeFi protocols (Uniswap, Aave, Compound)
Interact with NFT platforms
Access any Web3 app
Connect to multiple blockchain networks (Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon, Base, BNB Chain, etc.)

Step 1: Install MetaMask

Desktop (recommended for beginners):

Go to metamask.io
Click Download
Choose your browser: Chrome, Firefox, Brave, or Edge
Click Add to Chrome (or your browser)
The MetaMask fox icon appears in your browser toolbar

IMPORTANT: Only download from metamask.io — there are fake MetaMask extensions. Verify the URL.

Step 2: Create a New Wallet

Click the MetaMask fox icon in your browser
Click Create a new wallet
Set a password (this is for local device access only — not your seed phrase)

Click Secure my wallet

Step 3: Write Down Your Seed Phrase (Critical)

MetaMask will show you 12 random words — your Secret Recovery Phrase (seed phrase).

What to do:

Write every word on paper in order
Store the paper in a secure physical location (safe, drawer, etc.)
Never photograph it
Never type it into any website except MetaMask itself
Never share it with anyone

Why it matters: These 12 words = complete access to your wallet. Anyone with them can drain your funds instantly. MetaMask staff will never ask for it.

Click Reveal Secret Recovery Phrase
Write down all 12 words
Click Continue
Verify the phrase by selecting words in order
Click Done

Step 4: Add Your First Funds

Your MetaMask wallet address looks like: 0x1A2b3C4d5E6f7G8H9...

To fund it:

Copy your wallet address (click the address below your wallet name)
Go to Binance → Wallet → Withdraw
Select ETH
Network: Ethereum (mainnet) or Arbitrum (cheaper gas)
Paste your MetaMask address
Send a small amount first to verify

For Ethereum mainnet: You need ETH to pay gas fees for transactions. Even if you want to hold USDT, you need some ETH (~$5–10) to pay transaction fees.

Step 5: Add Networks to MetaMask

By default, MetaMask only shows Ethereum mainnet. Add cheaper networks:
